Dodge City men's soccer team wrapped up the home portion of their schedule for 2024 by breaking up a three-match losing streak with a scoreless tie against Seward County.
The tie moves the Conquistadors to 4-9-2 on the season and 3-6-2 in KJCCC action. Three more games this season are all on the road.
The first half would see both teams putting together opportunities but both defenses and goalkeepers were strong to keep each other off the scoreboard. At halftime, both teams had eight shots and three shots on goal each as the game was even all-around. In the second half the tight battle would continue with each team getting a few chances until the 67th minute when things changed as the Conqs had a red card going a man down for the final 22:30 of the match. Seward County took advantage of the man-down situation for the Conqs as they picked up possession and generated a few more opportunities with multiple corners and more. With just under 15 minutes remaining Seward County earned a free kick just outside the box and would fire a shot that
Geovanni De Luna would save and keep the clean sheet. The Conqs would create a few counter opportunities late that would just come up empty from
Jose Rojas and
Jackson Balderramos and the contest would settle in at a scoreless draw.
Conqs would outshoot Seward County just 17-14 and it was 7-6 in shots on goal in favor of Seward County. De Luna recorded seven saves in the matchup, while
Vicente Sandoval and
Cristobal Juan Berrios were strong defensively, along with several others.
The Conqs travel to Synder, Texas on Saturday, October 19th for an early morning contest at 10:00 am against Western Texas. Two more matchups on the road also remain against Coffeyville and Iowa Western both on the road.
