Dodge City women's soccer snapped a seven-match winless streak in the final home match of the regular season as they got another late goal to secure a 2-1 win over Seward County.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 4-8-3 on the season and 4-7-3 in the KJCCC with just two matches remaining on the season both on the road.
While Seward County had control of possession early and fired off some early shot opportunities the Conqs defense would keep the Saints off the scoreboard and in the 11th minute the Conqs broke through. The 11th minute would see the first official shot of the match by the Conqs as
Martina Bonilla pushed in a goal off a touch from Karen Ernst Lüdeking. The Conqs would carry the 1-0 lead into halftime and in the second half the opportunities started to increase for the Conqs. However, despite more looks towards the goal it was Seward County who scored the next goal in the contest in the 60th minute to even contest up at 1-1. The Conqs would continue to look forward to push back and in the 87th minute snatch the lead back as Meike Patzold would tally the go-ahead goal on a rebound opportunity from a
Nuria Garcia shot and the Conqs would grab the 2-1 victory.
In the contest, the shots were nearly even at 12-10 in favor of the Conqs, while
Ana Ramirez-Cortes recorded five saves in the win.
Conqs are back in action against #8 Butler on Wednesday, October 23rd at 6:00 pm and then will wrap up the regular season against Coffeyville on Saturday, October 26th at 4:00 pm.
