Volleyball Sweeps Cloud County For Fifth Straight Win

October 13, 2024

Box Score Dodge City volleyball team picked up their fifth straight win with a straight-set sweep of Cloud County winning 25-13, 25-19, and 26-24.

The win gives the Conquistadors a five-match win streak in KJCCC play the longest streak since 2010 in conference action. Conqs improved to 18-10 on the season and 9-2 in KJCCC action. Conqs have won eight of the last 10 meetings with Cloud County.

Tight through the first seven points for each team to start the night but the Conqs would mount a 12-0 run to lead 19-7. The big lead would be enough for the Conqs to push themselves to a 25-13 first-set win over the Thunderbirds of Cloud County. The Conqs jumped all over Cloud County to open the second set with a 9-0 run that included back-to-back aces by Hayden Pinard. The lead grew to 15-4 in the second set, but Cloud County countered with a 6-0 run to close the gap to 15-10 only to see the Conqs answer and earn a second set win 25-19. After a 3-0 start to the third set Cloud County pushed back and took the lead and would hold off the Conqs taking the set to set point at 24-19. The Conqs would fend off set point five times and then finish the set on a 7-0 run including match point on a Agnes Hegardt block winning the third set 26-24 to claim the match.

Pinard would have a strong performance with 28 assists, 12 digs, three aces, and one kill. Leisey Keli'i had another double-figure dig contest with 19 digs, adding three assists, two aces, and one kill. Azra Arslanoglu had a team-high eight kills on the night, while Hegardt added seven kills and Sila Yildiz chipped in six kills.

After having four of the last five matches at home the Conqs are on the road for the next two KJCCC contests starting with a showdown against Butler on Wednesday, October 16th at 6:00 pm.
