Women's Soccer Plays to a Draw Against Garden City

The Dodge City women's soccer team snapped a four-game losing streak as Jayhawk Conference play continued with a clash against rival Garden City but the Conquistadors ended up settling for a 2-2 tie. 

The Conqs with the tie moved to 3-8-3 on the season and 3-7-3 in KJCCC action, while it also marked 17 straight matches in the series with Garden City the Conqs have not lost to the Broncbusters. 

Back-and-forth early over the first 10 minutes of play as both teams generated a couple of opportunities but neither team broke through. After the first 10 minutes, the Conqs started to control possession, and it would produce more chances including the first goal of the game as Martina Bonilla gave the Conqs the 1-0 lead in the 24th minute. The Conqs carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime and extended it to 2-0 early in the second half in the 47th minute as Emily Alonso chipped the ball over the goalkeeper for a goal. The Conqs would keep Garden City off the scoreboard until the 72nd minute as the latter portion of the game saw the Broncbusters control possession. Garden City continued to pursue offensive chances in the final minutes of the matchup and in the final 30 seconds of the contest snuck another goal in to tie the contest at 2-2. 

The Conqs would outshoot Garden City 16-14 in a contest that was nearly even in most categories on the day. Bonilla and Alonso each netted a goal for the Conqs while in the tie Ana Ramirez-Cortes recorded eight saves in goal. 

Three games remain in the regular season for the Conqs as they will wrap up competition at home for the season on Wednesday, October 16th at 4:00 pm against Seward County, and then will play Butler and Coffeyville on the road to cap the season.
