After snapping a 30+ game losing streak last year to Seward County the Dodge City women's basketball team snapped another streak against the Saints by beating them 73-53 in Liberal marking the first win on the road against Seward County since 1992.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 13-2 on the season and 7-2 in KJCCC action.
The Conqs would start a little slow but mount a 7-0 run to lead 7-4 after the first five minutes and then have a 12-0 run in the first quarter to ultimately lead 19-9 after the first 10 minutes. The lead would balloon out to 30-15 in the second quarter until a 7-0 run late in the first half by Seward but the Conqs would carry a 32-22 advantage into halftime. In the third quarter, Seward would have a 10-4 run and outscore the Conqs 17-12 which made the contest a five-point game. Looking to take a firm hold on the game the Conqs mounted a 13-5 run over the first three and half minutes of the fourth quarter and would cruise to the 73-53 win using a 29-14 fourth quarter to secure the victory.
The Conqs' defense was stout holding Seward to just 26% shooting and just 4-25 from three-point range while racking up 12 steals and 12 blocks both season highs in a game. Offensively the Conqs shot 43.7% for the contest.
Five players scored double figures finishing with 14 to 10 points each for the Conqs.
Paris Santacaterina tallied 14 points on 7-14 shooting while grabbing a career-high 15 rebounds and added four assists.
Parris Atkins chipped in 14 points on 7-15 shooting with five steals, three assists, and three rebounds, while
Layla-J Cameron also had 14 points on 6-12 shooting along with five rebounds.
Kyriana Jones recorded a double-double with 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, while
Shorna Preston chipped in 10 points, nine rebounds, three blocks, three steals, and three assists.
