Women's Basketball Routs Northwest Kansas Tech

Back at it after the holiday break, the Dodge City women's basketball team picked up their 12th win of the season dispatching Northwest Kansas Tech 98-66. 
 
The win moves the Conquistadors to 12-2 on the season and 6-2 in KJCCC action, while the win also marks the seventh straight over the Mavericks for the Conqs. Head Coach, Landon Steele is also now 9-1 against teams he's previously coached. 
 
It was a sluggish start to the contest for both sides, but the Conqs would work to a 16-2 lead, but the lead dropped down to six late in the first quarter only to see the Conqs hold a 25-19 advantage after the first 10 minutes. A tight second quarter but the Conqs would add to their lead carrying a 44-33 advantage into intermission. Business picked up for the Conqs in the second half as they would shoot over 54% in the half to cruise past Northwest Kansas Tech starting with a 27-14 third quarter to extend the lead. The Conqs would approach the century mark in the later portion of the contest and finish with a season-high 98 points to claim the 98-66 win. 
 
Conqs shot 49.3% in the contest with a season-high 26 assists on 33 made field goals while hitting 13 three-pointers. Defensively the Conqs held the Mavericks to 29.5% shooting while recording a season-best 11 blocks. Conqs also had season team highs in rebounds with 49, winning the rebounding battle by 13 and snagging 12 steals which matches a season best. 
 
Kyriana Jones posted a career-high 22 points on 7-10 shooting including 4-6 from three-point range while grabbing six rebounds. Layla-J Cameron chipped in 14 points with five assists, three steals, and three rebounds, while Paris Santacaterina added 13 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. Off the bench, Tayah Morgan added 12 points, while Shorna Preston tied her career-high with 12 rebounds while scoring eight points and adding five assists and four blocks. Parris Atkins chipped in nine points and both Monique Rudder and Logan Johnson each scored six points. 
 
Up next the Conqs hit the road for the first time in 2024 as they will travel to Liberal on Saturday, January 6th for a 4:00 pm contest against Seward County.
