Women's Basketball Rolls Past Colby for 17th Win of Season

Dodge City women's basketball bounced back into the win column as they hosted Colby and jumped up big early against the Trojans to cruise to the 78-38 win. 
 
The win moves the Conqs to 17-3 on the season and 11-3 in the KJCCC. 
 
The Conqs raced out to early control outscoring Colby 10-2 over the first four and half minutes leading to a Trojans timeout. The Conqs would hold a 21-14 lead at the end of the first quarter and then would expand that lead in the second stanza behind an 18-10 quarter. Utilizing some strong shooting and defense the COnqs led 39-24 at halftime. The second half was more of the same for the Conqs continuing to find ways to score and grow their lead. To start the second half the Conqs would outscore Colby 12-4 over the first five minutes of the third quarter and then led 65-34 at the end of the third behind a 26-10 quarter. The Conqs secured the win with a 13-4 fourth quarter grabbing the 78-38 win. The 38 points by Colby is the second-lowest score by a KJCCC opponent in three seasons under Head Coach, Landon Steele
 
The Conqs finished the contest shooting 43.5% hitting nine three-pointers and going 15-18 from the free throw line, while defensively the Conqs held Colby to 25.8% shooting and just 3-21 from three-point range. The Conqs dominated the glass outrebounding the Trojans 48-27 and forcing 20 turnovers. 
 
Parris Atkins paced the Conqs on the day with 21 points on 9-17 shooting adding five rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Paris Santacaterina added 14 points on 4-8 shooting and 5-6 free throws along with seven rebounds and four assists. Kyriana Jones chipped in 12 points with three assists, two rebounds, and four steals, while Layla-J Cameron scored 10 points. Tayah Morgan had a strong day off the bench with eight points and nine rebounds. 
 
The Conqs are back on the road on Wednesday, January 31st to continue the season as they square off with Independence at 5:30 pm.
