Dodge City men's basketball was back in action hitting the road in the KJCCC to embark on the second half of the conference season taking on #19 Hutchinson. The Conquistadors struggled to stay with the Blue Dragons ultimately falling 107-72 on the road.
The loss moves the Conqs to 7-12 on the season and 5-8 in KJCCC action.
The game would open with the Blue Dragons flying out to a 7-0 start, but the Conqs responded with five straight points to tighten it back up. Hutchinson countered with another 7-0 run to take control again, but the Conqs would push back a couple of times drawing with 17-13 and then 25-22 at the 8:21 mark of the first half. Over the final eight minutes of the first, the Conqs would see Hutchinson take firm control of the game, as the Blue Dragons outscored the Conqs 30-7 leading to a 55-29 halftime score. Despite strong efforts in the second half the deficit was too much for the Conqs to overcome as they would drop the contest 107-72.
In the loss, the Conqs would shoot 38.9% from the field and go 24-31 from the free throw line but Hutchinson countered by shooting 57.6% and going 22-27 from the free throw line. Conqs also struggled with 25 turnovers and were outrebounded 40-29 in the contest.
Chevalier "Ice" Emery continued to lead the Conqs as he dropped in 23 points on 5-10 shooting and 10-12 from the free throw line.
Marius Canery tallied 13 points on 5-9 shooting including 2-2 three-pointers, while
Tyler Williams matched his career-high with 12 points adding seven rebounds.
The Conqs will look to get back in the win column as they host Colby on Saturday, January 27th for a 3:00 pm tip in KJCCC action.
