Dodge City women's basketball made it four-straight wins since returning to action from the holiday break with the latest coming on the road against Barton, 67-60.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 15-2 on the season and 9-2 in KJCCC action, while the win also is the third straight against Barton in the series marking the longest win streak for the Conqs against Barton.
The Conqs looked the three-point ball as usual to open the game and would drain a few in the first quarter to lead 16-11 after the first 10 minutes. That margin would hold up for a lead for a bit in the second stanza but Barton capped the first half on a 10-2 run and the Cougars would carry the lead into halftime against the Conqs at 25-21. The second half would see it stay close and the Conqs would start to hit a bit of a groove tying the game at 41-41 with a
Paris Santacaterina three-pointer late in the third. The first lead of the second half for the Conqs would come with just under six minutes remaining in the game at
Layla-J Cameron drained a three-pointer to make it 53-51. The Conqs would not give the lead back leading up three late and grabbing a big rebound by
Shorna Preston with 8.6 seconds left after a Barton missed layup, as the Conqs secured a 67-60 win with late free throws.
Conqs shoot just 36.1% from the field but hit 11 three-pointers and went 12-15 from the free-throw line while matching their season low for turnovers with only nine. The Cougars would shoot 36.2% but only 29.2% from three-point range.
A pair of 19-point performances paced the Conqs on the night as Santacaterina tallied 19 points on 5-10 shooting and 4-4 from the free throw line while adding six rebounds and five assists. Cameron also posted 19 points on 7-16 shooting including five three-pointers.
Parris Atkins added 13 points on 4-9 shooting and 5-5 from the free throw line along with three rebounds, three steals, and four assists. Preston grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds in the win for the Conqs.
Season rolls along for the Conqs on Wednesday, January 17th as they will host Garden City at the Student Activity Center for a 5:30 pm start time.
