It was another top-notch opponent on the docket for Dodge City men's basketball as they traveled to Great Bend to take on #9 Barton and while the Conquistadors snagged a lead in the second half it was Barton finishing the game strong to earn the win 95-75.
The loss moves the Conqs to 7-10 on the season and 5-6 in KJCCC action.
It was a slow start on the day for both teams and the Conqs would be down just 6-5 but Barton mounted a 12-0 run to go up 18-5 with 12:11 left in the first half. But the 13-point deficit would be the largest lead Barton would hold in the first half as the Conqs would hang tough despite struggles and fouls and with a few late buckets trailed only by six points at 39-33 at halftime. The Conqs came out of the half and pushed Barton hanging close and with an
Avnoor Bhullar three-pointer tied the game at 46-46 then took their first lead of the game at 49-48 and would go up 51-48. However, Barton answered by grabbing the lead back and then pushing it back to double figures going on to secure the win for themselves 95-75.
In the loss, the Conqs shot 37.3% and had 19 turnovers, while Barton had 17 turnovers but shot 55% from the field. The Conqs would go 21-18 from the free throw line but struggle on the glass being outrebounded 45-31.
Chevalier "Ice" Emery led the Conqs with 15 points with two assists and two steals.
Gavin Shannon chipped in 13 points along with grabbing seven rebounds.
Tyree Jackson in his first start had a career-high 12 points on 4-5 shooting including 3-4 from three-point range and had three assists. Bhullar added 12 points with four rebounds and two steals.
Jayse Boatwright tallied six points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Conqs are back home on Wednesday, January 17th as they will square off with Garden City at 7:30 pm at the Student Activity Center.
