Men's Basketball Drops KJCCC Tilt With Coffeyville

Dodge City men's basketball struggled in their most recent contest as they welcomed Coffeyville to town and the Red Ravens used a late stretch in the first half to take control and ultimately top the Conquistadors 91-72.

The loss sends the Conqs to 7-8 on the season and 5-5 in KJCCC, now having gone 2-1 since the holiday break.

The Conqs would start the game with a bang as Chevalier "Ice" Emery found Jackson Swartz for an alley-oop dunk but overall, the game would feature a sluggish offensive start for both sides as it was just 7-6 Coffeyville five minutes into the game. Down 18-10 the Conqs mounted a run with a pair of Tyree Jackson three-pointers and a Hunter Duncan layup to even the game up at 18-18 with 10 minutes left in the first half. It would remain a two-possession game or closer until the two-and-a-half minute mark of the first half when Coffeyville would outscore the Conqs 10-2 to cap the first half leading 43-29. The Conqs would continue to push in the second half but Coffeyville's strong shooting continued and ultimately allowed the Red Ravens to grow their lead and grab the 91-72 win.

In the loss, the Conqs shot just 38.5% from the floor and only 4-25 from three-point range, while Coffeyville countered with a 52.5% shooting performance and 13-30 for three-point range.

Emery paced the Conqs with 16 points going 6-7 from the free throw line, while Marius Canery added 15 points on 7-13 shooting. Gavin Shannon tallied 13 points with seven rebounds, while both Duncan and Jackson each scored nine points.

Up next the Conqs hit the road in KJCCC play on Saturday, January 13th for a 4:00 pm tip against #9 Barton.
