Men's Soccer Uses Pair of Second Half Goals to Beat Kansas Wesleyan JV

Dodge City men's soccer had a quick turnaround from Saturday's win at Coffeyville as they took to the road once again and played Kansas Wesleyan University JV in Salina on Monday and snagged a 2-1 victory.

The win moves the Conquistadors to 6-2-1 on the season and 3-0 in non-conference play. The Conqs have one six-straight non-conference matches dating back to last year.

The first half would see some solid attempts towards the goal for the Conqs and a couple of strong late looks by Kansas Wesleyan but both teams remain off the scoreboard over the first 45 minutes with a scoreless contest at halftime. The second half would see early goals as it was Kansas Wesleyan striking first in the 47th minute but the Conqs countered quickly just over a minute later as Aaron Melgar found Theo Hoang for the equalizer. It would remain 1-1 for a majority of the second half with the Conqs garnering multiple opportunities but it wasn't until the 85th minute when Melgar notched a goal on a Arthur Lemeunier pass and the Conqs would finish out the contest to win 2-1.

In the contest, the Conqs outshot Kansas Wesleyan just 18-11 but 11-5 in the second half. Daniel Ruiz was in goal for the Conqs and recorded three saves.

The Conqs are back in action on Wednesday, September 27th as they hit the road to take on #7 Barton in Great Bend at 1:00 pm.
