Dodge City women's soccer squared off with another ranked conference foe as they took on #18 Butler at home on Wednesday and while the Conquistadors battled the Grizzlies it was Butler walking away with a 1-0 victory.
The loss moves the Conqs to 1-4-3 on the season and 0-3-4 in KJCCC action.
Early in the contest possession would be back and forth between the Conqs and the Grizzlies but as the first half started to wind down Butler picked up the pace and was on the prowl a bit more aggressively.
Lucia Martinez Garcia and the Conqs defense would manage to keep Butler off the board and the contest went into halftime a 0-0 tie. In the second half, the Conqs would get a couple of solid looks on goal, but Butler picked up their shot frequency and were able to grab a goal because of it in the 62nd minute leading to a 1-0 final in favor of the Grizzlies.
The Conqs in the loss were outshot 21-6 in the contest and while the Conqs surrendered a goal Martinez Garcia did record nine saves in the match.
KJCCC play continues for the Conqs on Saturday, September 23rd when they travel to Coffeyville to take on the Red Ravens at 4:00 pm.
