Dodge City volleyball returned home on Friday night to continue KJCCC play as they hosted Cloud County and by the end of the night, it was the Thunderbirds of Cloud County that flew home with a victory. 
 
The Conquistadors would fall in four sets (25-19, 25-23, 20-25, 25-23) against Cloud County moving the Conqs to 11-8 on the season and 2-2 in KJCCC play. 
 
The Conqs started the night strong as Sierra Scanlan opened the evening with an ace and then an early 7-1 run in the first set working to an 11-4 lead, forcing a Cloud County timeout. Cloud County would mount a comeback shortly out of the timeout going on a 9-1 run to ultimately tie up the first set at 13-13. The lead would swing to the Thunderbirds and the Conqs would fall 25-19 in the first set. Set two saw Cloud County hold the early advantage but the Conqs would answer snagging the lead at 13-12 but it would be tight the rest of the way and late in the second set Cloud County would secure it taking the set 25-23. Needing the third set the Conqs jumped on Cloud County early doubling up the Thunderbirds at 12-6 and then went up by double digits at 17-7 and despite a late Cloud County run the Conqs won the third set 25-20. The fourth set would be a tight battle and see the set tied several times late but again like set two Cloud County snagged the set late 25-23 leading the Thunderbirds to win the match in four sets. 
 
In the loss, Tess De Zanet recorded a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs, while Beatriz Lampugnani Cornachini added 10 kills and nine digs. Agnes Hegardt had a strong performance with nine kills and three blocks, as Madison Wallman chipped in six kills and seven kills. Scanlan finished with 43 assists and 20 digs, adding four aces, two kills, and a block assist. Leisey Keli'i added 23 digs for the Conqs in the contest. 
 
The Conqs are back on the road next week to continue their season as they will take on Pratt on Wednesday, September 20th at 6:30 pm.
