Pair of Conquistador Softball Players Named KJCCC All-Conference

Dodge City softball wrapped up the 2023 season with a run in the Region 6 Tournament that saw the Conquistadors go 2-2 in the tournament finishing the season 19-30. 

A pair of sophomores had strong seasons to help lead the charge for the Conquistadors this year and both have been honored with KJCCC Division I All-Conference honors. Melanie Castro and Addison Spencer earned first-team and honorable mention All-KJCCC honors, respectively. 

Castro leaves the Conquistadors after two stellar seasons and etched her name in the school record book in many categories leaving a program by making a big impact on Conquistador softball. She earned first-team All-KJCCC this year after she earned second-team honors as a freshman last year. The Ralls, Texas native hit .435 this season with a team-high 64 hits and led the team in runs scored (50), triples (8), walks (20), and stolen bases (27). She added seven doubles, two home runs, and just three strikeouts in 147 at-bats.

Castro caps her career as the career triples school record holder with 16, while ranking second in career runs (107), hits (135), and stolen bases (46), along with ranking fourth in career batting average (.453) and sixth in career RBI (67). She also owns the school record for single-season triples with eight doing that both her freshman and sophomore years, she also in a single season top 10 marks this year in fifth in stolen bases (27), seventh in runs (50), and ninth in batting average (.435). In her freshman year she finished third in single-season batting average (.470) and runs (57), and fourth in hits (71) in school history. 

Spencer caps her Conquistador career by making an impact on the program with her leadership and skill. She earned honorable mention honors this year as well as picking up the same honors as a freshman. The Vernon, Texas native led the team with a .445 batting average and played in all 49 games this season recording 61 hits, 35 runs scored, 35 RBI, 20 walks, 14 doubles, a triple, two home runs, and four stolen bases. She also etched her name in the school record book as she finishes tied for sixth in career doubles (27) and RBI (67), while rankings seventh in career batting average (.408), and tenth in career hits (111). This season her team-leading batting average of .445 ranks as eighth best in a single season in school history. 

Both Castro and Spencer leave the Dodge City softball program after two great years representing the Conquistadors.
