Dodge City softball traveled to El Dorado to open the week and faced off with #16 Butler in a KJCCC doubleheader and ultimately fell 6-0 and 9-1 in five innings.
The Conquistadors struggled to get the offense going and suffered the two losses to move them to 12-19 on the season and 7-11 in KJCCC action.
It's a quick turnaround for the Conqs as they will have their first home games since March 22nd as they will host Seward County on Wednesday, April 5th in a doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm.
Game 1 – Lost 6-0 at Butler
It was would a tough task to put the ball in play for the Conqs in game one against Butler who would stymie the Conqs throughout the contest surrendering only three hits. Butler snagged the lead early plating two runs in the first and then adding two more in the third. While the Conqs didn't allow Butler to have an outburst of offense the Grizzles got two more runs with one coming each in the fourth and fifth innings and with the offensive woes of the Conqs, the contest wrapped up 6-0.
Melanie Castro had two of the three Conq hits as she was 2-3 with a stolen base, while K'lee Flores was 1-3 and tossed all six innings recording eight strikeouts in the loss.
Game 2 – Lost 9-1 at Butler (5 innings)
The second game of the doubleheader was much more of the same as the first as the Conqs' offensive struggles continued. After a scoreless first inning, the bottom of the second would be the difference of the contest as Butler used the home run ball to score seven runs and then added two in the bottom of the third. The Conqs finally got on the board in the top of the third when Castro recorded a single and would ultimately come in to score on an RBI single by
Addison Spencer. After the third, the Conqs were unable to get the offense moving again falling 9-1 in five innings.
Castro finished the game 1-2 with a run scored, while Spencer was 1-2 with an RBI, and
Camryn Lenz finished 1-2.
