Dodge City softball played host to #20 Butler on a sophomore day to wrap up the home portion of the season and while hanging tough with the Grizzlies the Conquistadors would ultimately fall 9-1 in six innings and 5-1.
The losses move the Conqs to 17-26 on the season and 12-18 in KJCCC action.
Conqs will wrap up the regular season on the road against Barton on Wednesday, April 26th at 1:00 pm and then will compete in the Region VI Tournament hosted in Dodge City on the first weekend of May.
Game 1 – Lost 9-1 vs Butler (6 innings)
After a one-two-three inning defensively to open the game the Conqs got a leadoff single by
Melanie Castro in the bottom of the first inning but would strand her at third base. The second inning saw Butler snag the lead behind a pair of home runs to go up 2-0 and then the Grizzlies added two more runs in the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth, the Conqs finally broke through as
Dalaney Utajara led the inning off with a walk and came into score on an RBI single by
Rylie Hufford. In the sixth Butler pushed their lead out by plating five runs ultimately to allow them to secure the 9-1 win in six innings.
The Conqs managed just five hits but drew six walks and had a hit batter but would strand 10 runners in the contest. Castro was 2-3 with a walk and stolen base, while Hufford,
Camryn Lenz, and
Madison Kacer each had a hit. Kacer was 1-1 with a pair of walks, and Utajara drew two walks and scored a run.
Game 2 – Lost 5-1 vs Butler
Both teams had some scoring opportunities early in game two, but the contest would remain scoreless until the fourth innings of action when Butler tallied the first run. The Grizzlies added two more runs in the sixth inning, but the Conqs countered in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single by
Addison Spencer scoring
Reneau Ratzlaff who walked in the inning. Trailing just 3-1 entering the seventh inning the Conqs looked to stay within striking distance, but Butler added a pair of insurance runs with two runs in the top of the seventh helping them past the Conqs 5-1.
Conqs recorded just four hits in the contest as Castro was 1-3, while Spencer went 1-3 with an RBI. Kacer and K'lee Flores each added a 1-3 game.
