Dodge City softball hit the road to continue KJCCC action facing off with Garden City and fell in a pair of conference contests falling 22-4 and 10-1 both in five innings.
The Conquistadors with the losses are now 12-17 on the season and drop to 7-9 in KJCCC action.
Conqs continue the season on the road on Monday, April 3rd as they travel to El Dorado to take on Butler for a KJCCC doubleheader.
Game 1 – Lost 22-4 at Garden City (5 innings)
The Conqs would start the day strong getting on the board in the first inning against Garden City as
Melanie Castro led the game off with a triple and came into score on an RBI single by
Raemie Lopp. A K'lee Flores RBI single and then a passed ball would allow the Conqs to score two more and lead 3-0 in the top of the first inning against Garden City. The Broncbusters of Garden City answered with two runs in the bottom of the first and then scored six in the second and five in the third to take control. Conqs got back on the board in the top of the fourth taking advantage of an error by Garden City to score a run, but Garden City once again had another big inning plating nine runs in the bottom of the fourth leading to the Conqs falling 22-4 in five innings.
Castro paced the Conqs going 3-3 with a run scored, triple, and two stolen bases, while Lopp was 1-3 with a run scored, stolen base, and RBI. Flores added a 1-2 performance at the plate with a walk and RBI, while
Addison Spencer was 1-1 with a run scored and two walks.
Game 2 – Lost 10-1 at Garden City (5 innings)
Garden City picked up where they left off in game one as the Conqs were unable to wrangle the bats of the Broncbusters falling behind early. In the bottom of the first, the Conqs saw Garden City tally five runs and then three more in the second. In the top of the fourth Spencer led the inning off with a single and then
Camryn Lenz got on base with a single with two outs
Jaden Nagle brought in the first run of the contest for the Conqs on an RBI base hit. Garden City answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth and the Conqs were unable to muster up much more offense falling 10-1 in five innings.
In the loss, Spencer was 1-3 with a run scored, while Nagle finished 1-2 with an RBI, and
Reneau Ratzlaff was 1-2 with a stolen base. Castro, Lenz, and Lopp each had a hit also in the loss.
