Dodge City softball hit the road to continue KJCCC action and took on Colby and while there was some early offense the Conquistadors ultimately dropped a pair of games on the road falling 9-5 and 8-0 in five innings.
The losses move the Conqs to 17-24 on the season and 12-16 in KJCCC action with two more conference series left in the season.
The Conqs are back at home on Saturday, April 22nd, and will host #20 Butler for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm. It will also be sophomore day at Legends Park.
Game 1 – Lost 9-5 at Colby
The day would start strong for the Conqs as it was early offense but ultimately that would be the only runs of the day for the Conqs as well. In the first inning,
Melanie Castro and
Reneau Ratzlaff opened the game by reaching on an error and drawing a walk, respectively and then
Addison Spencer brought in a run on an RBI single. K'lee Flores followed by reaching on an error to bring in another run, while
Dalaney Utajara registered an RBI double to make it 3-0 Conqs. RBI groundouts by
Camryn Lenz and
Rylie Hufford added two more runs for the Conqs in the first inning. Colby answered by getting a run in the bottom of the first, but it would be 5-1 until the bottom of the fourth inning. In the fourth the Trojans of Colby plated two runs and then another in the fifth to make it a one-run game. The bottom of the sixth would see the Trojans find a way to score five runs and ultimately grab the 9-5 win.
In the loss Spencer was 2-3 with a run scored and RBI, Utajara was 1-3 with a run scored, RBI, and double, while Flores was 1-3 with a run scored and RBI.
Game 2 – Lost 8-0 at Colby (5 innings)
The second game of the doubleheader was controlled by Colby as they got on the board early and used the home run ball to secure the win. In the bottom of the first Colby tallied two runs, then added three runs more in both the second and third innings. The Conqs offense would struggle managing just three hits and four base runners ultimately falling 8-0 in five innings.
Hufford was 2-2 for the Conqs, while Lenz was 1-1 and
Mia Golka drew a walk.
