Dodge City softball continued a recent offensive outburst with a pair of five-inning wins over Northwest Kansas Tech on Thursday winning 12-3 and 24-1.
The victories move the Conquistadors to 17-20 on the season and 12-12 in KJCCC action, while stretching their current win streak to five-straight games. The Conqs also have now won 10 straight against the Mavericks of Northwest Kansas Tech and 15 of the last 16 meetings.
Up next the Conqs continue action at home as they will host #17 Hutchinson on Saturday, April 15th in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
Game 1 – Won 12-3 vs Northwest Kansas Tech
The Conqs as they have done all season got on the board early scoring a pair of runs in the first inning against the Mavericks and then adding another in the second to lead 3-0. Northwest Kansas Tech got on the board in the bottom of the second with back-to-back hits to open the inning and then made it a one-run game with another run in the third making it 3-2 entering the fourth. In the top of the fourth, the Conqs busted the game open batting around scoring eight runs. A two-run home run by
Raemie Lopp, a two-RBI triple by
Addison Spencer, and RBI double by
Izabella Mikelson all highlighted the eight-run fourth. The Mavericks grabbed a run in the bottom of the fourth but a
Reneau Ratzlaff triple and then RBI single by Spencer got a run back for the Conqs in the fifth as the Conqs set the Mavericks down in order in the bottom of the fifth to grab the 12-3 win.
K'lee Flores tossed all five innings giving up three runs on six hits and no walks, while striking out four and added a 2-4 showing at the plate with two RBI and a run scored.
Spencer helped lead the charge offensively going 3-4 with a triple, run scored, and three RBI, while Kacer added a 2-2 game with two walks and a run scored.
Camryn Lenz had a strong game at the plate going 3-3 with two doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI.
Melanie Castro added a 2-4 game with two triples, with two runs scored.
Game 2 – Won 24-1 vs Northwest Kansas Tech
It was early scoring again in game two that would propel the Conqs past Northwest Kansas Tech to the doubleheader sweep. The Conqs would bat around in both the first and second innings scoring nine runs in each inning. In the first Lopp belted her second two-run homer of the day, while Flores had a two-RBI single and in the second Mikelson recorded a two-RBI double, while
Rylie Hufford had an RBI double in the inning. Leading 18-0 the Conqs saw the Mavericks scoring their only run of the game in the bottom of the second. Conqs would finish out the game with two runs in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings on the way to a 24-1 win.
The 24 runs are the most in a single game this season for the Conqs as the game featured 17 hits for the Conqs. Hufford was 4-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, and three RBI, while Mikelson added a 2-4 game with four runs scored, a walk, and three RBI. Spencer had a pair of walks, two runs scored, and two RBI double, while Flores was 2-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Ratzlaff added a 2-2 game with two runs scored, a walk, and an RBI, and Castro was 1-1 with a triple, two walks, and three runs scored.
Dalaney Utajara was strong inside the circle tossing all five innings giving up just one run on seven hits and no walks while striking out five and earning the win.
