Dodge City softball team played to a split in KJCCC action against Colby on Monday winning game two of the doubleheader 7-1 to end a nine-game losing streak to the Trojans as Colby had won game one of the doubleheader 11-2.
The Conquistadors with the split moved to 10-6 on the season and 5-1 in KJCCC action and have won 10 of the last 12 games this season.
Back to action quickly for the Conqs as they will hit the road to take on #18 Hutchinson on Wednesday, March 8th in a KJCCC doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm.
Game 1 – Lost 11-2 vs Colby (6 innings)
The Conqs would take the early advantage on the day in the bottom of the first inning as
Melanie Castro start the inning with a double then a sac-bunt moved her to third and
Addison Spencer recorded an RBI single to give the Conqs a 1-0 lead. In the top of the third Colby swung things their way batting around to score six and doing it with two outs. The Conq bats would be stymied from the second to fifth innings and the in top of the sixth Colby batted around again this time plating five runs. Needing to score in the bottom of the sixth the Conqs found some offense but would get only one run as they worked the bases loaded, and on a sac-fly by
Reneau Ratzlaff but ultimately that was it for the Conqs in the sixth leading to Colby claiming the 11-2 win in six innings.
The Conqs were outhit in the loss 14-5 by Colby. Spencer paced the Cqons at the plate going 2-2 with a run scored, RBI, and hit by pitch, while Castro finished 1-3 with a run scored and double.
Rylie Hufford and
Camryn Lenz each had a hit. K'lee Flores took the loss tossing all seven innings for the Conqs.
Game 2 – Won 7-1 vs Colby
Looking for the split the Conqs fell behind early in game two as Colby took advantage of a Conq error in the top of the second to score a run. Conqs tied the contest in the bottom of the third scoring a run and then in the bottom of the fifth would take the lead. Castro belted a two-run home run in the fifth to lift the Conqs to the lead. In the sixth, the Conqs would bat around to provide some insurance runs as a two-RBI single by Hufford and two RBI double by Castro highlighted a four-run sixth for the Conqs. Colby worked the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, but the Conqs would close the door to snare the 7-1 win.
Dalaney Utajara picked up her fourth win inside the circle for the Conqs tossing all seven innings giving up just one run on seven hits and one walk with one strikeout. Spencer once again was strong at the plate going 2-3 with a double to stretch her hit streak to nine games (each game has 2+ hits), while Castro was 2-4 with a home run, double, four RBI, and two runs scored.
Madison Kacer scored three runs on two walks and a hit by pitch.
