Dodge City softball team struggled at home against Barton in KJCCC action dropping a pair of games falling 11-3 in five innings and 8-0 in six innings.
The losses move the Conquistadors to 12-12 on the season and 7-7 in KJCCC action.
It's back to action this weekend as the Conqs step out of conference play to take on Kansas City Kansas CC in a three-game series with a pair of games on Saturday, March 25th at 1:00 & 3:00 pm and then one game on Sunday, March 26th at 12:00 pm.
Game 1 – Lost 11-3 vs Barton (5 innings)
The Conqs would break through first on the day with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning but Barton would do most of the scoring the rest of the day. In the bottom of the first
Melanie Castro led off with a triple and would come into score on a groundout and then added another run capitalizing on a walk and single. The lead was short-lived for the Conqs as Barton had a big offensive outpouring with six runs in the top of the second and then added five more in the third. In the bottom of the third, the Conqs got back on the board taking advantage of a leadoff hit by a pitch in the inning. The Conqs would be unable to get on the board again and fell 11-3 in five innings.
Castro finished 2-3 for the Conqs with a triple and run scored, while
Alicyn O'Neill added a 2-3 game with an RBI.
Reneau Ratzlaff was 1-2 with an RBI and walk, while both K'lee Flores and
Izabella Mikelson each tallied a hit.
Game 2 – Lost 8-0 vs Barton (6 innings)
Game two was tight over the first four innings despite a run each in the first and second innings by the Cougars of Barton. Cougars leading 2-0 after four innings of action would take over the game against the Conqs in the fifth and sixth innings plating two and four runs, respectively in the innings. The Conqs offense would never get going mustering only three hits in the contest as the Conqs fell 8-0 in game two in six innings.
Addison Spencer was 1-3 with a double, while Castro and Flores each recorded a hit for the Conqs.
