Dodge City women's basketball passed another test as the #11 Conquistadors took down #19 Butler at home for their 15th straight win, winning 70-63.
The Conqs move to 22-2 on the season and 17-1 in KJCCC action. While the win also gives the Conqs a three-game lead in the conference standings.
Conqs would take control early working out to a 7-2 advantage over the first two and a half minutes leading to a Grizzly timeout. The scoring would slow down from that point as the Conqs would take a 13-7 advantage into the second quarter. The lead worked its way to nine in the early portion of the second stanza and then to a 19-9 advantage with just over seven minutes left in the first half. Conqs would lead by as many as 11-points and take that big of a lead into halftime up 34-23 over Butler. In the second half, the lead would grow to as high as 15 points for the Conqs. Butler pushed back to end the third quarter on an 8-0 run to close the gap to just five points at 47-42. The fourth quarter would see both teams string plays together, but the Conqs would hold off Butler as the Grizzlies would get within two points briefly but were never able to tie or take the lead as the Conqs secured the 70-63 win.
Offensively the Conqs shot 43.3% in the contest draining 10 three-pointers while holding Butler to 38.2% from the field. Conqs forced 24 Grizzly turnovers and won the battle of the boards 33-29 in rebounds.
Leah Mafua once again led the Conqs as she tallied 14 points adding four steals, four rebounds, and four assists.
Jada Burton chipped in 11 points on 3-4 shooting and 4-4 from the free throw line while dishing out five assists.
Jenna Rose Mafua added 11 points, while
Shakara Anderson added 10 points and six rebounds.
Back on the road on Saturday, February 11th to continue the season for the Conqs as they take on Hutchinson at 5:30 pm.
