Women's Basketball Routes Hutchinson for 16th Straight Win

Dodge City women's basketball rolled past Hutchinson on the road with a spectacular second half to win their 16th straight game, claiming the win 69-35. Conquistadors held a conference opponent to the lowest points output since November 15th, 2017 (won vs Pratt 44-34).

The win moves the Conqs to 23-2 on the season and 18-1 in KJCCC while being their 16th straight game. The back-to-back wins over Hutchinson this season is the first time since 2015 since accomplishing that in the series versus the Blue Dragons.

After scoring the first four points of the game the Conqs saw Hutchinson go on an 8-0 run leading to the Blue Dragons holding a 14-11 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Conqs responded by opening the second quarter with a 10-3 run to snare the lead, but that Blue Dragons hung tough making it a one-point game at 23-22. Over the final four minutes in the first half the Conqs put together a 12-2 run and carried a 35-24 lead into halftime. The second the Conqs locked up Hutchinson with some straight jacket defense holding the Blue Dragons to just 11 points in the second half as the Conqs outscored Hutchinson 23-9 in the third quarter and 11-2 in the fourth quarter. The Conqs capped the game with a dominating 69-35 victory.

Conqs shot 47.2% from the floor and went 14-16 from the free throw line, while the defense held Hutchinson to just 27.5% shooting including 3-20 from three-point range and forced 28 Hutchinson turnovers.

Jada Burton paced the Conqs with 16 points and added six assists, five steals, and three rebounds. Georgia Gray chipped in 14 points, while Jenna Rose Mafua dropped in 13 points on 5-8 shooting and had three steals.
