Softball Sweeps Northwest Kansas Tech in KJCCC Opening Action

Dodge City softball opened KJCCC play with a doubleheader sweep of Northwest Kansas Tech earning 19-3 and 17-7 victories both in five innings. 
 
The wins move the Conquistadors to 5-5 on the season and 5-1 in their last six games, while giving the Conqs a 2-0 start to conference play. 
 
The Conqs quickly turn around and are back in action on Monday, February 27th against Lamar for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm at home. 
 
Game 1 – Won 19-3 vs Northwest Kansas Tech (5 innings) 
The Conqs jumped up early against the Mavericks of Northwest Kansas Tech as Alicyn O'Neill brought in the first run on an RBI double in the bottom of the first and Conqs would add another. The Mavericks answered with a pair of runs in the top of the second, but the Conqs answered with two runs in bottom of the second taking advantage of Northwest Kansas Tech mistakes. In the third the Conqs worked the bases loaded and then back-to-back fielder's choices brought in runs to start a nine run third inning for the Conqs. Camryn Lenz would highlight the frame for the Conqs with a two RBI triple to push the Conqs to a 13-2 lead. An RBI double by Melanie Castro and two RBI double by Addison Spencer added to the Conqs lead in the fourth. In the fifth Northwest Kansas Tech scratched one run across home plate but the Conqs finished the contest to claim the 19-3 win. 
 
Conqs offense produced 10 hits in the win led by 2-3 performance by Castro who had four runs scored, two RBI, a walk, double, and two stolen bases. Spencer added a 2-3 game with two runs scored, two RBI, a walk, and double, while Lenz was 2-4 with four RBI, two runs scored, a triple, and double. Rylie Hufford chipped in a 2-3 performance with two runs scored and an RBI. 
 
In the circle K'lee Flores tossed all five innings for the win giving up just three runs (two earned) on six hits and no walks, while striking out six. 
 
Game 2 – Won 17-7 vs Northwest Kansas Tech (5 innings)
Conqs continued their offense from game one starting the scoring again early again plating three runs in the bottom of the first. An RBI single by Spencer got the Conqs on the board and two more would score on an error by the Mavericks. Conqs added five more runs in the bottom of the second inning to grow the lead to 8-0 but the Mavericks would get on the board in the top of the third with a pair of runs. In the bottom of the third O'Neill blasted a two-run home run and then scored seven more for a nine run third inning. In the top of the fifth the Conqs saw Northwest Kansas Tech tally five runs but the Conqs were able to finish the contest claiming a 17-7 win in five innings. 
 
A 12-hit attack paced the Conqs to the win on top of drawing seven walks and taking advantage of multiple Northwest Kansas Tech errors. Spencer finished 3-4 with three runs scored, a double, and three RBI, while Raemie Lopp was 3-3 with two doubles, an RBI, three runs scored, and two stolen bases. Jazlynn Vaquera added a 2-3 game with a run scored, two RBI, and a walk. 
 
Inside the circle Dalaney Utajara picked up the win tossing all five innings of action working around 11 hits in the contest.
