Dodge City softball picked up their sixth and seventh wins of the season with a doubleheader sweep of Lamar on Monday claiming 11-0 and 12-1 victories both in five innings.
The wins move the Conquistadors to 7-5 on the season and give them seven wins in the last eight games.
Conqs are quickly back in action as they host Garden City on Wednesday, March 1st for a KJCCC doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
Game 1 – Won 11-0 vs Lamar (5 innings)
It was a strong start to the day as K'lee Flores struck out the side to open the game against Lamar and then the Conqs took advantage of a walk and two Lamar errors in the first to take a 2-0 lead. The lead grew in the second inning as the Conqs tallied three runs highlighted by an RBI single by
Alicyn O'Neill and then made it 8-0 behind three more runs in the third as an RBI triple by
Izabella Mikelson highlighted the inning. Lamar struggled to muster any base runners getting just three in the game while the Conqs added three more runs in the fourth and capped the game in the fifth to earn the 11-0 victory.
Flores was stellar in the circle recording a career-high eight strikeouts and tossing all five innings to earn the win as she did not give up a run or a walk, only giving up two hits. Mikelson finished 2-3 with a triple, run scored, and two RBI, while
Addison Spencer was 2-3 with a run scored.
Game 2 – Won 12-1 vs Lamar (5 innings)
The early offense helped propel the Conqs to the win in game two against Lamar for the doubleheader sweep. The Conqs set Lamar down in order to open the contest and would then bat around in the bottom of the first inning taking advantage of two Lamar errors, a hit batter, along with three hits to score five runs. A Spencer RBI double highlighted the five-run first inning for the Conqs. Lamar got on the board with a run in the third but the Conqs answered by batting around again in the fourth to score seven runs as a three RBI double by Spencer, an RBI triple by
Camryn Lenz, and two RBI double by
Reneau Ratzlaff led the way in the inning. The Conqs would once again finish the game in the fifth securing the 12-1 win.
Dalaney Utajara earned the win in the circle tossing all five innings, surrendering just one run on one hit and three walks. Lenz went 2-3 with a triple, double, two runs scored, and an RBI, while Spencer finished 2-3 with two doubles, four RBI, and two runs scored.
