Dodge City men's basketball hit the road in KJCCC play and grabbed another win grinding out a 78-74 win over Colby.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 21-7 on the season and 17-5 in KJCCC action and remains in sole possession of first place in the KJCCC.
The Conqs opened the game 3-3 from the field jumping up 7-3 over Colby early but both teams would shoot 50% over the first six minutes of the game. Colby would take their only lead of the first half at 14-13 with 14:05 left in the first half, both teams would go cold from the field for a good portion of the middle of the first half. The Conqs would then string together an 8-0 run to lead 26-17 and ultimately manage to own a 10-point lead in the first half but went into intermission up 36-29. Four minutes into the second half the Conqs lead was just three at 42-39 and then it was cut to one point with 13:05 left in the game. In back-and-forth action, the Conqs saw Colby snag a brief lead at 52-51 with 10:16 left in the game and then the Trojans led again at 65-63 with 5:02 left in the game. However, each of those times the Conqs answered the first being a 6-0 run and then a
Chris Robinson three-pointer later. Tied at 69-69 Robinson drained another big three-pointer and the Conqs would not trail the rest of the way as
Jason Edwards hit a late reserve layup and free throws down the stretch after
Cam Malray came up with a huge late block. The Conqs would secure the 78-74 win on the road.
Conqs shoot 44.3% in the contest while Colby shot 45% from the floor but had 15 turnovers in the contest.
Edwards was spectacular again for the Conqs dropping 29 points on 8-17 shooting and going 11-12 from the free throw line. Robinson chipped in 16 points on 6-11 shooting including four three-pointers, while Malray tallied 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Jacobi Sebock finished with 10 rebounds and eight points.
Back on the road again on Saturday, February 25th at 4:00 pm against Pratt to continue the season for the Conqs.
