Dodge City women's basketball coming off a season-opening win at South Plains continued their first road trip of the season in Texas taking on Midland to open the Odessa Classic and would route them 87-46.
The Conquistadors would move to 2-0 on the season with the win using another strong shooting performance to snag the victory. The win marks the 50th for Head Coach, Landon Steele as coach of the Conquistadors.
The Conqs would jump up early against Midland leading 13-2 after nearly the first four minutes of action and would continue to stretch the lead out over the course of the contest. After the first 20 minutes of the contest, the Conqs held a 35-21 lead over Midland. The second half saw an outpouring of points for the Conqs as they outscored Midland 30-9 in the third quarter getting contributions from several players. The Conqs would cruise to the win 87-46.
Offensively the Conqs drained 17 three-pointers shooting 47.2% from behind the arc and 47.3% from the floor overall. The Conqs had 21 assists on 35 made field goals and swiped 12 steals while having only 11 turnovers. Defensively the Conqs held Midland to 26.4% shooting and 0-20 from three-point range.
Parris Atkins paced the Conqs with 23 points while adding seven steals, two assists, and three rebounds as she shot 10-15 from the floor. Layla-J Cameron added 15 points going 5-6 from the field including 5-5 from three-point range, while Paris Santacaterina chipped in 10 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds. Shorna Preston added nine points and both Jyordanna Davey and Tayah Morgan both contributed eight points.
Conqs wrapped up the Odessa Classic against #23 Odessa on Saturday, November 4th to continue their season after the win over Midland.
