Women's Basketball Routes Independence in KJCCC Action

Dodge City women's basketball dominated for the second straight game earning a 35+ point win in KJCCC action beating Independence 95-57.

The win moves the Conquistadors to 8-1 on the season and 2-1 in KJCCC action, while marking the fourth straight win over the Pirates of Independence in the series.

The Conqs looked to take early control of the contest working to a 12-6 lead over the first four minutes of action but Independence and closed to within two at 14-12 before the Conqs finished out the first quarter and led 23-15 after the first 10 minutes. The lead would only grow from the second quarter on as the Conqs outscored the Pirates 19-7 in the second quarter to carry a 20-point lead into halftime up 42-22. The points continued to pile in the second half as the Conqs spread the wealth with 11 different players scoring. In the third quarter, the lead was pushed further out behind 29 points in the stanza by the Conqs and pockets of cold shooting for the Pirates. The Conqs closed out the contest with a 24-16 fourth quarter to snag the 95-57 victory.

The 95 points mark a season-high for the Conqs as they did it on 47.4% shooting including eight three-pointers and 13-15 from the free-throw line. The Conqs also had 19 assists on 37 made field goals, while limiting their turnovers to just nine and forcing 17 turnovers by Independence. Defensively the Conqs stymied the Pirates throughout the action holding them to 27.5% shooting and 2-24 from three-point range.

A quartet of double-figure scorers led the Conqs with a career-high 16 points from Tayah Morgan leading the charge as she added four rebounds. Paris Santacaterina chipped in 15 points on 7-14 shooting and snagged eight rebounds, while Parris Atkins and Kyriana Jones each posted 15 points on 7-12 and 6-12 shooting respectively.

Up next the Conqs will square off with Pratt on the road on Wednesday, November 29th at 5:30 pm to continue their season.
