Women's Basketball Dominates In Road Win Over Colby

Dodge City women's basketball rolled to their first KJCCC win of the season as they routed Colby 86-40 on the road. The 46-point win matches the largest margin of victory in a conference game under Head Coach, Landon Steele (beat Northwest Kansas Tech last year also by 46 points).

The win moves the Conquistadors to 7-1 on the season and 1-1 in KJCCC action as they have now won six in a row against the Trojans of Colby.

The Conqs grabbed control early on the road working a 13-1 lead over the first four and half minutes as it took nearly five minutes for Colby to get their first bucket of the game. At the end of the first quarter, the Conqs led 24-11 that lead would grow behind a 17-7 second quarter to lead 41-20 at intermission. Conqs opened the second half on a 7-0 run and would nearly double up the Trojans for the third quarter posting a 23-12 frame. The lead would just continue to expand in the fourth quarter leading to the 46-point win for the Conqs at 86-40.

It was a blistering hot night shooting for the Conqs shooting 53.7% from the floor including nine three-pointers, while limiting turnovers to just 15 in the contest. Conqs controlled the boards outrebounding Colby 44-27 and held the Trojans to just 23% shooting.

A quartet of double-figure scorers paced the Conqs including 12 points for Kyriana Jones as she was 5-5 from free throw line and added four rebounds. Tayah Morgan chipped in 12 points on 4-8 shooting, while Shorna Preston tallied 11 points going 3-3 from the floor, while also grabbing eight rebounds. Mia Jordan added double figures with 10 points on 4-4 shooting and grabbed three rebounds. All 12 Conqs who played scored in the contest.

Season continues for the Conqs on Saturday, November 25th against Independence at 1:00 pm in Dodge City.
