For the second straight year, the Dodge City volleyball team will be competing in the Region VI Plains District playoffs semifinals, but this year accomplished the feat of getting to the semifinals by coming up with a first-round road upset win over Hutchinson. 

The Conquistadors as the seven seed of the region went to two-seeded Hutchinson and took the Blue Dragons to five sets grabbing the win to end Hutchinson's season with a 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, 16-25, 15-12. The Conqs snapped a four-match losing streak to the Blue Dragons with the win. 

The win moves the Conqs to 16-16 on the season and into the Region VI Plains District semifinals set for Saturday, November 4th in Great Bend. 

Hutchinson jumped on the Conqs early to open the match working to an early 5-1 advantage and going up 13-8 but the Conqs closed the gap and tied the first set at 20-20. The Conqs snagged the lead late at 23-22 in the first set and then scored the final two points of the set to take it 25-22. Set two saw Hutchinson grab an early lead again but the Conqs hung tough once more this time however Hutchinson kept the Conqs at bay taking the second set 25-20. Set three saw the Blue Dragons on top early again but just like the first set it was a late surge by the Conqs to snare the lead late and grab the set 25-20 to lead the match 2-1. The fourth set would be much like set two as Hutchinson established an early advantage and used it to take the fourth set 25-16. After the first point of the fifth set went the Blue Dragons way the Conqs rattled off seven straight points to lead 7-1 and then used that cushion to get to set point. Hutchinson would not go away quietly mounting a run to close the gap, but the Conqs finally cemented things in their favor taking the fifth set 15-12 to win the match. 

Beatriz Lampugnani Cornachini tallied a career-high 22 kills in the win while notching her eighth double-double adding 16 digs. Tess De Zanet chipped in 13 kills, nine digs, a solo block, and five block assists, while Agnes Hegardt finished with 13 kills marking her sixth double-figure kill performance. Sierra Scanlan orchestrated the offense with 45 assists and added 15 digs, while Leisey Keli'i tallied 23 digs for her 12th match with 20+ digs. Madison Wallman added 14 digs and three kills. 

The Conqs will travel to Great Bend on Saturday, November 4th as Barton will host the remainder of the Region VI Plains District playoffs with the semifinals on Saturday, and the Conqs will face off with Colby at 4:00 pm.
