Dodge City men's basketball hosted Hutchinson in the KJCCC opener, and it was an early lead established by the Blue Dragons that led them past the Conquistadors 89-73.
The loss moves the Conqs to 2-5 on the season and 0-1 in KJCCC action.
Hutchinson would open the contest with the first five points and the Conqs would finally get on the board via an Avnoor Bhullar three-pointer two and half minutes into the contest and then tie things up at 5-5. Hutchinson would regain the lead and go on to grow it to five or six points and throughout the first half, the Conqs were held at arm's length by the Blue Dragons. Ultimately Hutchinson built a double-figure lead and would get a late layup to lead by 10-points at 50-40 at halftime. In the second half, Hutchinson continually answered the runs of the Conqs who would get within striking distance multiple times. Conqs would be unable to overcome the first-half deficit leading Hutchinson to an 89-73 win.
In the loss the Conqs shot 41.3% from the floor and went 14-17 from the free throw line but had 21 turnovers, while Hutchinson shot 54.1% from the field and had just 15 turnovers.
Chevalier "Ice" Emery paced the Conqs with 20 points on 7-15 shooting adding four rebounds and three assists. Marius Canery added 11 points and went 6-6 from the free throw line, while Hutner Duncan tallied nine points. Gavin Shannon finished with eight points and nine rebounds.
The Conqs are back in action on Tuesday, November 21st at 7:30 pm on the road against Colby to continue KJCCC play.
