Men's Basketball Secures Road KJCCC Win With Free Throws Late Versus Colby

Dodge City men's basketball team fended off Colby down the stretch on the road getting late free throws to secure a 78-73 road conference win.

The win moves the Conquistadors to 3-5 on the season and 1-1 in KJCCC action, while marking the fifth straight win over Colby.

An early 5-0 run by the Conqs pushed them to the 7-4 lead and the Conqs would not give it up despite Colby cutting into the lead several times over the course of the contest. The lead grew to nine on Avnoor Bhullar's third three-pointer of the contest with 11:55 left in the first half as the Conqs were up 22-13. Conqs would push the lead to double figures in the first half but would settle for the 38-29 advantage going into halftime. The second half would be back and forth with the Conqs continuing to hold Colby at arm's length until around the 3:33 mark when the Conqs' 10-point lead would dwindle down to one point at 74-73 with 58 seconds remaining after a Colby three-pointer. The Conqs would seal the victory behind some late free throws and defense as Chevalier "Ice" Emery and Jamari Gamble each drained a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the contest lifting the Conqs to the 78-73 victory.

Conqs had their best shooting performance of the season hitting 47.5% of their shots while going 8-17 from three-point range and went 12-15 from the free-throw line. Defensively the Conqs held Colby to 35.5% shooting with 23 of their points coming from the free-throw line.

Bhullar recorded a career-high 21 points on 8-11 shooting including 5-8 from three-point range while grabbing eight rebounds. Emery chipped in 19 points on 7-13 shooting along with three rebounds, while Gamble tallied 11 points with six rebounds.

Season continues for the Conqs on Saturday, November 25th against Independence at 3:00 pm in Dodge City.
