Volleyball Drops Conference Matchup With Butler

October 25, 2023

Box Score

Dodge City volleyball took on Butler for the second time this season and the Conquistadors would split the season series with the Grizzlies falling in four sets at home.

The Conqs would drop the match against Butler 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 24-26, 25-14) falling to 15-15 on the season and 6-9 in KJCCC play this season.

The night would start off with each team trading points early in the first set until Butler worked to a three-point lead multiple times midway through the set. The Conqs rallied to tie the first set at 19-19 and then snag a 20-19 lead but Butler had an answer finishing the set with a 6-1 run giving the Grizzlies a 25-21 first set win. Set two was like the first tight early with Butler grabbing the lead midway through the set but unlike the first the Grizzlies held off the Conqs in the latter portion of the set leading to Butler taking set two 25-22. The third set was back-and-forth early and again saw Butler lead midway through the set but the Conqs mounted a run and snagged the lead late holding set point, but Butler fended it off twice only to see the Conqs string together back-to-back points to win the third set 26-24. The fourth set saw Butler go up 5-2 and then 12-7 which led to the Grizzlies taking the fourth set 25-14 to finish the contest.

Beatriz Lampugnani Cornachini recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 13 digs in the loss, while Tess De Zanet had eight kills and Agnes Hegardt added seven kills. Sierra Scanlan orchestrated the offense for the Conqs finishing with 32 assists, while adding seven digs. Both Jatnna Pena and Leisey Keli'i each tallied nine digs in the matchup.

The Conqs will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, October 28th when they host Colby for a 6:30 pm contest.
