The Dodge City women's soccer capped the regular season with a victory holding off Coffeyville for a 3-2 decision to finish sixth in the KJCCC standings.
The win over the Red Ravens gives the Conqs the season series sweep over Coffeyville while moving the Conqs to 4-8-5 on the season and 3-8-5 in KJCCC action.
It would be a normal day in Dodge City without the wind and the wind would play a big factor in the game for the Conqs and the Red Ravens. Playing with the wind in the first half the Conqs would snag the early advantage and make it hold up. In the 11th minute, the Conqs set up a free kick in the attacking third and would cash in as Giselle Heck found the back of the net off the free kick. The lead jumped to 2-0 in the 26th minute when Sian Cha found Mariam El Mir Tartouri and the Conqs carried that lead into halftime. In the second half, the wind flipped in favor of Coffeyville and it benefited the Red Ravens overall. Early in the second half, the Conqs snagged their third goal as Cha tallied a goal on a pass from El Mir to make it 3-0. That margin would be cut into by Coffeyville as the Red Ravens started to fire off shot after shot in the second half and they tallied a goal in the 78th minute then in the 88th minute scored on a penalty kick after a handball call with 1:30 left in the match. The Conqs despite seeing Coffeyville get two late goals grabbed the win 3-2.
In the contest, it was almost even in shots with the Conqs just edging Coffeyville 17-16, but each half was very different as the Conqs outshot Coffeyville 13-1 in the first half and Coffeyville outshot the Conqs 15-4 in the second half.
Up next the Conqs head to the postseason and will compete in the first round of the Plains District playoffs on Sunday, October 29th as they will travel to Arkansas City to face #17 Cowley at 2:00 pm.
