It would take a goal in the 86th minute but the Dodge City men's soccer bested rival Garden City for their eighth win of the season marking the sixth time out of seven seasons under Head Coach, Oscar Zelaya that the Conquistadors have won at least eight games in a season.
The Conqs 1-0 win makes it nine straight in the series with the Broncbusters that the Conqs have not lost to them while moving this season's record to 8-3-2 and 5-3-2 in KJCCC action.
The first half was even throughout the 45 minutes with both teams holding possession and each recording four shots in the half but neither team was able to get on the board as the game was scoreless at halftime. The second half saw the Conqs pick up the pace as they would outshoot Garden City 11-6 in the half and get some big chances late in the matchup. Those chances led to the Conqs breaking through in the 86th minute as the Broncbusters goalkeeper came out of a challenge and after an initial deflection, Arthur Lemeunier grabbed possession and fired a shot for the goal for the Conqs. Daniel Ruiz would secure the ball late in the goalie spot as Garden City threatened to tie the contest, but the Conqs kept them off the scoreboard.
In the victory, the Conqs would outshoot Garden City 15-10 with nine of the Conqs 15 shots being shots on goal.
The Conqs are back in action on Sunday, October 15th when they travel to Liberal to take on Seward County at 5:00 pm.
