A late penalty kick goal saved the Dodge City women's soccer team from defeat on the road as the Conquistadors managed a 1-1 tie against Garden City.
The tie moves the Conqs to 3-7-4 on the season and 2-7-4 in KJCCC action, the tie also makes it 15 straight meetings against the Brocnbusters without a loss.
The first half was extremely low key with neither team taking control and nearly playing an even first half as the Conqs barely were outshot by Garden City 5-4 in the half but after the first 45 minutes the game remained scoreless. The second half saw Garden City push the offense to fire off 11 shots and that would lead to the Broncbusters grabbing the lead in the 59th minute. The Conqs remained down all the way until the final minute of the contest as the Conqs looked to tie the match in the 84th minute but misfired on a couple of attempts. One final opportunity came in the final seconds of the match as the Conqs earned a penalty kick with 11 seconds left to go. Femke Wiedeman stepped up and drained the penalty kick to tie the match and help the Conqs salvage a tie on the road against Garden City.
The Conqs were outshot in the contest 16-10 and 8-4 in shots on goal. Lucia Martinez Garcia tallied seven saves for the Conqs including notching six in the second half.
Up next for the Conqs they are back in action on Sunday, October 15th when they travel to Liberal to take on Seward County at 3:00 pm.
