For the first time since 2015, the Dodge City women's soccer team has picked up a win over Kansas City Kansas CC beating the #10 Blue Devils 2-0 for the upset victory.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 3-5-3 overall and 2-5-3 in KJCCC action, while snapping a six-match losing streak to KCK and giving the Conqs a win over a ranked opponent.
The Conqs would see KCK open the match with early opportunities, but the Conqs answered by making some strong pushes toward the goal, and in the ninth minute Mariam El Mir Tartouri knocked down a clearance by the KCK goalie and fired a shot to make it 1-0. The lead would grow in the 31st minute the Conqs saw Femke Wiedeman go up top and tally the goal over the Blue Devil goalkeeper with Yui Fujii and El Mir Tartouri each getting an assist on the play. The Conqs carried a 2-0 lead into halftime and would make that hold up despite KCK firing off 19 shots in the second half with nine on goal. Lucia Martinez Garcia made several saves and Yessica Dozal had a big defense stop for the Conqs also standing in the goal. The Conqs would ultimately secure the 2-0 win.
KCK would double up the Conqs in shots, 24-12 with 19 in the second half but Martinez Garcia had 11 saves in goal blanking the Blue Devils.
Up next the Conqs are set for battle against another ranked KJCCC foe as they will take on #13 Hutchinson on the road on Wednesday, October 4th at 6:00 pm.
