Dodge City women's basketball made it six straight wins as they come out of the holiday break and take down Independence 73-53 on the road.

The Conquistadors with the win improve 13-2 on the season and 8-1 in KJCCC action.Â

It was a sluggish start to the contest offensively for both teams but the Conqs worked to an early 6-0 advantage to open the game over the first two minutes. Independence responded and closed the first quarter on a 5-0 spurt to make it 13-10 Conqs after one frame. In the second quarter the Conqs took their first double figure lead on a
Leah Mafua three-pointer to make it 24-14 but the lead was just six at halftime at 33-27. The Conqs would continue to hold Independence off in the third quarter and by the end of the third led 49-36. Conqs would post a 24-17 fourth quarter and 40-23 second half to ultimately secure the lopsided road win 73-53 over the Pirates.Â

Conqs defensively held Independence to just 27.3% from the floor and 16.7% from three-point range, while shooting 46.7% from the floor themselves. Turnovers were an issue for both teams as each team tallied 22 in the contest.Â

Jenna Rose Mafua paced the Conqs with 16 points going 4-9 from three-point range, while
Shakara Anderson chipped in 12 points off the bench add grabbed eight rebounds, while tallying six steals.
Jada Burton posted a strong stat line with 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Leah Mafua finished with nine points, while
Georgia Gray scored seven points and grabbed eight rebounds.Â
