Men's Basketball Drops KJCCC Battle On the Road at Coffeyville

Dodge City men's basketball squared off with Coffeyville in a Top 15 KJCCC battle on the road and despite a solid effort the Conquistadors fell 94-78.

The loss moves the Conqs to 14-6 on the season and 10-4 in KJCCC marking the third straight loss for the Conqs as they are now a half-game behind Coffeyville for first place in the conference.

Conqs jumped up 6-0 to open the game as three different Conqs tallied an early bucket but Coffeyville counter to tie the game up at 10-10. Coffeyville then grabbed the lead and would on to it as the Conqs fell behind by double figures but behind a 10-1 run the Conqs drew within four points at 32-28 with 5:06 left in the first half. Once again Coffeyville countered and pushed the lead back out and it was 51-40 at halftime in favor of the Red Ravens. The Conqs' efforts in the second half were unable to chip away at the Red Raven lead as Coffeyville answered the Conqs' scoring and grew their lead on the way to finish the game 94-78 for Coffeyville.

In the loss, the Conqs shot 40.3% from the field but Coffeyville shot 51.7% and was 22-28 from the free throw line compared to the Conqs going 18-27 from the line. Conqs managed to outrebound Coffeyville 44-35 and only have 12 turnovers but the hot shooting of the Red Ravens was too much.

Chris Robinson scored 20 points to lead the Conqs, while Jacobi Sebock chipped in 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Jason Edwards added 12 points on the night, as both Shawn Warrior and DJ Jones each scored 11 points.

The season continues for the Conqs on Saturday, January 28th at home as they will host Seward County at 3:00 pm.
