Dodge City men's basketball team looked to return to the win column on Saturday as they hosted Seward County, and the Conquistadors would snap a three-game losing streak behind a 78-65 win at home.
The win improves the Conqs to 15-6 on the season and 11-4 in KJCCC action, while marking the fifth win over the Saints in the last six meetings.
Both teams opened the contest with a slow start as it was just 6-4 nearly seven minutes into the contest with Seward holding the slim lead. The Conqs would go on a 9-0 run to gain the lead going up 15-9 and would maintain the lead the rest of the way. The lead would continue to balloon for the Conqs in the first half rolling to double figures and has high as 20, as the Conqs carried a 40-21 lead into halftime. In the second half the Conqs saw Seward County try to push back but Conqs continually answered and fended off the advances of the Saints going on to secure the 78-65 victory.
Conqs tied their season-high with 12 three-pointers in the win and were plus seven in the rebounding battle (46-39) in the win. Defensively the Conqs held the Saints to 38.7% shooting and forced 20 turnovers.
Jason Edwards tallied 21 points to pace the Conqs as he hit five three-pointers and added two rebounds and three assists.
Shawn Warrior was huge off the bench for the Conqs scoring 17 points on 7-13 shooting while grabbing seven rebounds and adding four assists, three steals, and two blocks.
DJ Jones added 15 points, while
Cam Malray finished with nine points and nine rebounds.
Jacobi Sebock chipped in nine points and snared 11 rebounds.
The Conqs hit the road to keep the season rolling next Wednesday, February 1
st as they take on Northwest Kansas Tech at 8:30 pm (7:30pm MT).
