The Dodge City volleyball seems to perhaps have found their groove as they continued their strong play and carried the momentum from Wednesday's win over Butler into a KJCCC showdown with Colby on Saturday and came away with a dominating three-set win.
The Conquistadors earned the three-set win over Colby 25-17, 25-11, 25-16 to improve to 14-4 on the season and 3-2 in KJCCC play. Conqs have won five straight and have a three-game win streak in conference play.
The teams trade small runs early to open the match in the first set until the Conqs went on a 5-0 run to go up 7-4 and would continue to grow the lead from that point. Conqs pushed the advantage to double figures at 18-8 but Colby mounted a run to close the gap, but the Conqs closed out the first set by grabbing it 25-17. The second set was firmly in the grasp of the Conqs early as they opened the set on a 7-0 run that featured multiple aces by
Nur Yaren Turkmenoglu. The lead grew to as wide of a margin as 20-8 and the Conqs grabbed set two 25-11; 11 points is the lowest output by an opponent this season in a set. After Colby took the first point of the third set the Conqs answered working to a 10-4 advantage and used that lead to take the third set 25-16.
As a team the Conqs had their most efficient match hitting finishing with a .361 hitting percentage including hitting .579 in the second set. Conqs also had the most blocks in a match this season finishing with 14 in the match.
Martyna Kmuk finished the match with 15 kills hitting .591 for the match with 22 attack attempts and added four digs, a solo block, and a block assist.
Ozge Tan chipped in nine kills with four digs, a solo block, two block assists, an ace, and one assist. Turkmenoglu continued her strong season with 31 assists, two kills, five aces, two digs, a solo block, and four block assists.
Jatnna Pena tallied 13 digs in the win.
Conqs will now travel to Hutchinson for their next contest on Wednesday, September 28th at 6:00 pm as they are set to play the Blue Dragons for the second time this season.
