Dodge City football team is off to their best start since 2017 as they improved to 2-2 on the season behind a 46-6 win over Diamond Football Academy in their fourth game of the season.
Coming off the bye week the Conquistadors got back to work and action by hosting Diamond Football Academy out of Texas and cruised to the 46-6 win to move to 2-2 on the season.
After nearly an hour delay to the start of the game due to the opponent showing up late, the Conqs were in action and opened the contest by taking the opening drive 71 yards on seven plays with a 12-yard touchdown run by LaDamien Starks capping the drive. The Conqs led 6-0 after the missed extra point.
Conqs would force Diamond Football Academy into a punting situation in their first drive and on the punt a bad snap would be recovered in the endzone by
Tavares Williams for the second score of the day making it 12-0. The Conqs' next offensive drive would result in points also as
Mark McDonald finished a seven-play 42-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown run and with the PAT the Conqs led 19-0.
In the second quarter the Conqs visited the endzone three more times as McDonald had his second rushing touchdown this time from 10-yards out, and
Jamar Martin and
Darius Chester each added two-yard rushing touchdowns. Diamond Football Academy managed to get on the board before halftime and the Conqs took a 40-6 lead into intermission.
The second half went by quick with shortened quarters and the Conqs would find one more score in the final minutes of the contest as Martin had his second rushing touchdown a 10-yard score to finish the game out 46-6.
Conqs would outgain Diamond Football Academy 382 to 41 total yards of offense with 292 yards coming on the ground for the Conqs good for 5.8 yards per carry average for the day. The Conqs did not punt on the day and were 8-11 on third-down conversions.
Offensively the duo of McDonald and Martin paced the Conqs as they both ran for over 100 yards and two scores each. McDonald toted the rock 20 times for 116 yards with two scores, while Martin added 110 yards on 16 carries with two touchdowns. On defense, several players were in the mix all day with
Dav'Juan Dezeme recording six tackles and a fumble recovery.
Up next the Conqs are back in KJCCC action and take on rival Garden City on the road at 7:00 pm on Saturday, October 1st. The Broncbusters will enter the game coming off their first win of the season after beating Highland 14-6 on September 24th.
