Volleyball Claims Victory Over Butler for First Time Since 2016

For the first time since 2016, the Dodge City volleyball team notched a W in the win against the Butler Grizzles claiming the KJCCC win in a five-set battle. 

The Conquistadors after dropping the first set against Butler battled back to take the next two and then stay composed as the match went to a fifth set which they earned the win in to win the match 23-25, 25-21, 25-14, 20-25, 18-16. 

The win moves the Conqs to 13-4 overall and 2-2 in Jayhawk conference play this season and snapped a 10-game losing streak to Butler. 

After leading early in the first set the Conqs saw Butler overcome the deficit they faced and grab the first set late to take it 25-23. The Conqs did not get rattled as they responded and battled in a tight second set to claim it 25-21 and even the match. In the third set, the Conqs dominated the action and cruised past Butler 25-14 to take the 2-1 advantage in the match, only to see Butler bounce back in the fourth set to win it 25-20. In the fifth set, it was a see-saw affair that needed extra points to decide the winner and the Conqs finished off the match with an 18-16 fifth set. 

As a team, the Conqs finished the match strong hitting .474 in the fifth set with 10 kills and only one error, while in the match the ladies had 16 aces. Ozge Tan had a monstrous game on the outside as she matched her career high with 20 kills and finished with a double-double tallying 17 digs. Oliwia Durka had here ninth double-digit kill performance recording a career-best 18 kills, while Nur Yaren Turkmenolgu continues to fill the stat sheet recording 49 assists, seven aces, five digs, and three block assists. 

Martyna Kmuk added eight kills and 10 digs on the night, while Miya Alvarado had her best offensive match of the year with nine kills. Jatnna Pena and Alannah Lozoya each recorded double-figure digs with 15 and 16, respectively. 

Conqs continue to be at home on Saturday, September 24th when they host Colby at 6:30 pm and then will travel to take on Hutchinson on Wednesday, September 28th at 6:00 pm.
