For the fourth straight game the Dodge City women's soccer team took on a ranked KJCCC opponent this time hosting #6 Butler and playing the Grizzles to the wire but fell 2-0.
The Conquistadors who had dropped eight of last nine meetings to Butler would play the Top 10 Grizzlies tough and their closest loss to Butler during the last 10 meetings. The 2-0 loss moves the Conqs to 1-4-1 and 0-4 in KJCCC action.
Conqs would challenge throughout the first half but would see Butler get on the board first in the 19th minute. As the first half progressed the Conqs would have a few opportunities pop up to potentially tie the contest including a free kick for
Sian Cha right at the top of the box after a yellow card on the Butler goalkeeper. Cha would send the free kick to the goal and hit the crossbar and later in the first half the Conqs had a couple other looks but were unable to score trailing 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half the Conqs saw Butler control the possession most of the half and would extend their lead to 2-0 in the 53rd minute. The Conqs continually pushed forward down to the wire but were unable to break through falling 2-0.
The shot opportunities were nearly even as Butler outshot the Conqs 13-10, but it was 8-3 in shots on goal in the game.
Joelle Brand was solid in goal recording six saves, both Cha and
Alexandra Sibrikova recorded three shots.
Conqs will host Garden City on Wednesday, September 21st to continue the season with an 8:00 pm start time.
