Make it four in a row in the win column as the Dodge City softball team snagged two more wins on Sunday topping North Platte in non-conference play 11-1 and 13-2 both in five innings.
The wins move the Conquistadors to 14-16 on the season and give them a four-game winning streak after a pair of wins against Garden City on Saturday.
Back to conference play to continue the season later this week for the Conqs as they will travel to Liberal to take on Seward County on Wednesday, April 6th.
Game 1 – vs North Platte Won 11-1 (5 innings)
While the day featured a multitude of offense for the Conqs it was the visitors scoring first on the day as North Platte plated a run on a hit and two hit batters in the first inning. Conqs answered in the bottom of the first taking advantage of a leadoff walk to make it 1-1 after one inning. In the third, the Conqs made it 2-1 as
AJ Poell laid down a sacrifice bunt to score
Melanie Castro. In the fourth, the Conqs opened up the game tallying nine runs on eight hits, three walks, and a hit batter.
Stephanie Torres and
Ollievia Lowe each notched two RBI singles in the fourth inning to highlight the inning and Conqs finished the game in the top of the fifth for the 11-1 win.
Raemie Lopp inside the circle was strong earning her first win of the season tossing all five innings giving up just one run on four hits and two hit batters while striking out six.
Offensively Lowe finished 2-3 with three RBI and a run scored, while
Addison Spencer was 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Castro added a 2-2 performance with three runs scored, an RBI, and a walk. Poell,
Riley Haney,
Hadlee Richardson, and
Jennifer Katz each added a hit.
Game 2 – vs North Platte Won 13-2 (5 innings)
Early and often offense in game two for the Conqs against North Platte as the Conqs tallied two runs in the bottom of the first to take early control. Castro led off the bottom of the first with a triple and scored on a Lowe RBI single and added another. In the second the Conqs posted six runs with a Torres solo home run starting the scoring and then Castro added an RBI triple and Poell had an RBI double in the inning. In the third, the Conqs found four more runs with a solo home run by Katz highlighting the inning and then got another run in the fourth. North Platte managed a pair of runs in the contest but the Conqs secured the 13-2 win in five innings.
K'Lee Flores capped a stellar weekend inside the circle for the Conqs earning the win after tossing all five innings giving up just two runs on four hits, no walks, and struck out three.
At the plate Castro was hot again going 4-4 with three runs scored, three RBI, three runs scored, and two triples. Lowe went 3-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, while
Kalei Villegas was 2-2 with two runs scored and Katz finished 2-3 with two runs scored, a double, home run, and RBI. Haney also had a multi-hit game going 2-2 with an RBI and double.
