Softball Battles Butler In Pair of Tough Losses

Dodge City softball team wrapped up the regular season on the road against Butler and battled with the Grizzles ultimately dropping a pair of tough contests 11-3 in six innings and 7-3. 

The losses send the Conquistadors to 20-26 on the season and 14-18 in KJCCC action. 

Conqs will be back in action come postseason in the Region VI Tournament that will be hosted at Legends Park in Dodge City on May 6th-8th. 

Game 1 - at Butler lost 11-3 
The Conqs would take the early advantage on the day as Addison Spencer blasted a solo home run to make it 1-0 Conqs before Butler even took the bats off their shoulders. Butler responded in the bottom of the first by plating a pair of runs and then took control of the game behind a five-run second and then tacked on another run in the fifth making it 8-1. Conqs didn't go away capitalizing on some defensive miscues and errors by Butler in the top of the sixth to score a pair of runs, but Butler countered with three in the bottom half of the inning to fall 11-3 in six innings. 

In the loss, six different pitchers saw action for the Conqs, while the offense had just three hits as Spencer was 1-3 with two runs scored, a home run, and RBI. Jennifer Katz finished 1-2 with a walk, and Riley Haney was 1-3. 

Game 2 - at Butler lost 7-3
The second game of the day saw Butler take the early lead behind a run in the first inning but in the top of the third, the Conqs swung the lead their way. Melanie Castro hit a solo home run to tie the game up and then Spencer recorded an RBI double to give the Conqs a 2-1 lead. Butler answered by scoring a run in the third to tie the game and then four more in the fifth and another in the sixth. In the top of the seventh, the Conqs started to mount a comeback as Spencer had an RBI single to score Katz who led the inning off with a single and the Conqs would then work the bases loaded with two outs but would be unable to score again falling 7-3. 

Castro was 2-4 with a home run, run scored, and RBI, while Spencer was 2-4 with two RBI and a double. Katz also had a multi-hit game going 2-3 with a run scored. Inside the circle, the Conqs threw five different pictures in the contest.
