Dodge City softball team wrapped up their season in the Region VI Tournament falling 9-1 to Hutchinson and 12-4 to Colby in the tournament.
The Conquistadors close the season with a 20-28 record.
Game 1 – vs Hutchinson Lost 9-1
After a scoreless first inning to open the Region VI Tournament the Conqs got on the board first against Hutchinson in the first-round game scoring a run in the top of the second. A leadoff triple by
Stephanie Torres set the table for the Conqs to score in the second and a groundout by
Hadlee Richardson brought in Torres to give the Conqs a 1-0 lead. Hutchinson however countered with a six-run bottom of the second to snag the lead and then added two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to end the game in five innings. The Conqs were unable to get any more offense rolling after the second.
In the loss, Torress was 1-2 with a triple and run scored, while
Melanie Castro was 1-2 and Richardson had the team's lone RBI.
Game 2 – vs Colby Lost 12-4
After a first-round loss, the Conqs were faced with elimination in the Region VI tournament and squared off with Colby Saturday morning to try and stay alive in the tournament. After two scoreless innings, the Conqs struck first in the top of the third as
Kalei Villegas led the inning off with a walk and followed by a Castro single and they would both score on an RBI groundout by
Addison Spencer and an RBI single by
Riley Haney. Colby answered back with a huge 10-run bottom of the third to take control of the game. In the top of the fourth, the Conqs pushed back with two more runs with an RBI single by Castro highlighting the inning, but Colby countered with two more runs and then finished the game in the fifth inning.
In the loss, Castro was 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Richardson added a 2-2 day with a walk and run scored. Villegas and
Jennifer Katz each scored a run and had a walk, while Villegas also recorded an RBI. Both Spencer and Haney each went 1-3 with an RBI.
