Dodge City softball hit the road for the third straight series and took on the Hutchinson Blue Dragons for a KJCCC doubleheader. The Conquistadors struggled to get the offense rolling falling 7-0 and 8-2 in the doubleheader.
The Conqs with the pair of losses fall to 18-20 on the season and 12-12 in Jayhawk Conference action.
Conqs are off until next week when they return to action against Colby for a KJCCC doubleheader at home.
Game 1 – at Hutchinson lost 7-0
The contest started with a scoreless first inning, but Hutchinson would tally one or two runs in all the remaining innings as the Conqs offense struggled to get going. Conqs surrendered a single run in the second, fourth, and sixth innings and a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings to fall 7-0.
Conqs had just three base runners as
Addison Spencer tallied the team's only hit of the game and
Kalei Villegas recorded two walks in the game.
K'Lee Flores took the loss despite tossing a solid game as she gave up seven runs on 11 hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
Game 2 – at Hutchinson lost 8-2
Conqs offensive struggles carried over to game two as Hutchinson took the early 1-0 lead after the first inning and added three runs in each of the third and fourth innings. Conqs finally broke through on the day with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth as
Olivia Ortiz smacked a two-RBI double. Hutchinson answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth and the contest would ultimately finish 8-2 with the Conqs falling to Hutchinson.
Ortiz led the Conqs offense going 3-3 with two RBI, while
Melanie Castro was 1-4 with a run scored.
Alexis Holman tossed three innings of work, while
Danika Utajara tossed three innings of relief and gave up just one unearned run on one hit and no walks.
