Dodge City softball saw their eight-game win streak come to an end on Monday as they took on Colby in a KJCCC doubleheader falling in a pair of tough contests, 8-5 and 14-6.
The pair of losses move the Conquistadors to 18-18 on the season and 12-10 in KJCCC action.
Conqs are back in action again on Wednesday, April 13th when they travel to Hutchinson for a KJCCC doubleheader.
Game 1 – at Colby Lost 8-5
Conqs found themselves behind early which hasn't happened much this season but in game one Colby would score three in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead. An RBI single by
Stephanie Torres got the Conqs on the board in the second and then scored four to take the lead in the top of the third.
AJ Poell and Torres each recorded RBI singles in the third and
Hadlee Richardson had a two-RBI single in the inning. Colby answered with a three-run bottom of the third and made it 6-5 and then added a run in the fifth and sixth innings as the Conqs' late scoring chances came up empty falling 8-5.
Torres and
Addison Spencer paced the Conqs offensively in the loss each recording three hits. Torres finished 3-4 with two RBI and a double, while Spencer was 3-3 with two runs scored, a walk, and a double.
Game 2 – at Colby Lost 14-6 (6 innings)
The second inning was a big one in game two as the Conqs were rolling in the second to the tune of six runs to take the early advantage. Richardson and
Kalei Villegas each tallied an RBI single while
Melanie Castro and
Ollievia Lowe brought in runs with bases-loaded walks, and
Riley Haney added a two-RBI double to highlight the second for the Conqs. Colby answered in the bottom of the second with six runs of their own to tie the game up and the Trojans then did the rest of the scoring as the Conqs had multiple chances that came up short to plate more runs and fell 14-6 in six innings.
At the plate, Spencer was 2-3 with a triple, while Villegas was 2-3 with a run scored and RBI. Haney added a 1-3 game with a double, run scored, and two RBI, while Castro went 1-3 with a run scored, RBI, and walk.
